30 Day MLP Challenge, Day 18: "Crystal" Chrysalis

This is a challenge I designed for myself in which over the next 30 days (hopefully) I'll be drawing one random character from MLP:FiM each day.

Important notice: Seeing as I clearly can't keep up the pace with one drawing a day for this challenge, it's not really considered a 30 day challenge anymore XD However, I will continue to contribute to the "challenge" until I reach the 30th drawing, but at my own pace. Life is busy :I

After seeing the Season 3 premiere on Saturday and how pretty the crystal ponies were I was like OMG MUST DRAW CRYSTAL PONY. I didn't want to draw any of the mane 6 because I'm sure that's already been... overdone (especially Rarity, but her crystal design was SO DAMN AWESOME) so I picked Chrysalis. I know she'd probably get blasted off like King Sombra because of what happened the last time Cadence did something with her magic, but she does feed off of the love of others. Doesn't the crystal heart power the Crystal Empire off of love from the crystal ponies? Eh, whatever.

Seeing as the crystal heart changed the physical appearances of all the ponies, I had to come up with a design for Chrysalis because her original design just wouldn't do. I gave her mane and wings a very edgy, "crystal" look and also drew the holes in her body with the idea of "crystal" in mind. Her carapace, crown, and horn are also crystal-like and present sharp edges as well.

Oh, and my scanner actually didn't ruin the colours this time! Still needed to adjust the blues (as always) but it was very minimal. I opted to go for lighter shades of blue for her mane and tail and warm greys for her skin since the crystal ponies' coat colours got lighter and lighter as the episode played; I wanted to emulate those lighter colours with Chrysalis. The crystal effect was difficult to achieve with traditional media, in this case copics, but I was able to keep the lines straight for the most part!

Thank you!

Ah, it's been quite a while since I drew this, but I can tell you that I used the Shinhan brand of copic markers. As for the colours, I believe I used Pastel Blue (B67), Phthalo Blue (PB183), Pale Blue Light (PB185), Warm Grey (CG1 up to CG5), Grass Green (GY47), Yellow Green (GY48), Dark Green (BG51), and Turquoise Green Light (BG57).

It looks like I used more colours, but all I really did was layer multiple colours on top of each other to create "new" colours. I hope this helps!
