30 Day MLP Challenge, Day 10: Princess Luna

This is a challenge I designed for myself in which over the next 30 days (hopefully) I'll be drawing one random character from MLP:FiM each day.


More watercolour ponies! I really wanted to bring out the ethereal, flowy quality of Luna's hair so I went for a traditional style again c: The stars in her hair were also fun to draw in.

I think this one's my favourite so far; if there's two things I'm suckers for, it's glowy stuff and flowy painterly styles. Coincidentally, the way I painted Luna reminds me of one of my earlier pieces, "Nightfall."

That's another beautiful piece. And that paper, wow! The texture it yields really brings your art alive.

Personally I think the texture of the watercolour paper came out too strongly because of my scanner's tendency to hypersaturate things sometimes, but in this case I suppose the vibrancy of Luna's colours tone it down slightly.

Thank you very much! I agree with you, watercolours suit Luna well; I'm also thinking of drawing Celestia in a similar style because her hair would look really pretty all flowy c:

I'd love to see Celestia! You'd have to have a ton of patience for all the different colors of her hair though :D
